Spotlight: Steve James Takes A Giant Step Into Stardom With Justin Bieber’s ‘Purpose’

Two years ago, a 15-year old kid in his bedroom emailed me a Bastille remix he created which I went on to post. I was the first blog to ever support the talented young man. Today is a big day for him.

That talented young man is Pop On And On favorite, Steve James. You may be familiar with his incredible reworks of Smallpools’ “Karaoke” or ZHU’s “Faded,” which has racked up over 2.5 million plays on Soundcloud. Moving forward, you’ll know Steve James as the 17-year old writer/producer responsible for the title track of Justin Bieber’s latest studio album, Purpose.

Steve James spent the summer of 2015 in L.A., and it certainly paid off. Clearly there was a “purpose” for his time here, and it led to landing the title-track for one of the most anticipated albums of the year! James co-wrote and co-produced the title-track alongside Bieber’s team. Steve joins artists like Skrillex and Ed Sheeran to assist in the wildly successful reinvention of Justin Bieber – not bad for a 17-year old, huh?

Today, you can officially listen to “Purpose” as Justin Bieber’s latest studio album is released. I have a strong feeling this is just the beginning for an individual who can’t even legally buy cigarettes yet.
