POP Review: Young The Giant

Have you ever heard of Young The Giant? Most of you will probably say no. Hell, we didn’t even know who they were until last week ourselves! Though we were in for quite a surprise when we caught Young The Giant opening for Marina & The Diamonds in Chicago at Lincoln Hall last week. Young The Giant sounds like a younger and nonchalant version of Arcade Fire, and we say that in a good way. Hidden beneath the indie-rock exterior is a piece of POP we can dig right into.

Comprised of 5 friends from Orange County, these guys will give you a SHOW, and when we say show we mean SHOW! The energy was through the roof in this place, I can pretty much promise you that a good chunk of the audience was clearly there for Marina, but many took an obvious liking to the spark these guys lit up. While performing the track “My Body” (which you can get for FREE HERE), the crowd went wild and surrendered any “I don’t know this band” snobbery that was left in the room. After listening to the studio versions, we think these guys fit nicely into the “You have to see them live” category. However, the album versions deliver a solid piece of work, just doesn’t come with all the bells and whistles of the live experience. Listen to “My Body” below or get it for FREE HERE!
