Amid all the dub-step and POP glossiness of Taylor Swift’s 2012 effort, Red, I was absolutely floored by one track on the album.
“The Last Time” is a duet with Snow Patrol frontman, Gary Lightbody, and it’s one of the most haunting yet stunning songs you’ll hear on the radio this year, in the UK at least. Team Swift has announced “The Last Time” for single release in the UK on November 4th, this marks the 7th single Taylor has lifted from her monstrous album, Red.
Arranged by Owen Pallett, who co-arranged Arcade Fire’s Funeral and Neon Bible, the grand production on “The Last Time” continuously builds with somber piano chords, soaring strings and alternative-rock-POP guitars. Top it all off with a heart-wrenching explosion of lyrics that will leave you with tears for days because you know, there’s a 95% chance that if you’ve ever been in a relationship, you’ve felt EXACTLY this way.
Love her or hate her, you can’y deny Swift of the brilliance to bring together something so devastating and so beautiful all at once, “The Last Time” is sheer perfection.
Stream “The Last Time” below and cry your heart out, enjoy.
