Charli XCX is obviously a child of pop’s golden era that took place in the late 90s to mid 00’s. Not only has she professed her adoration for the Spice Girls (even wearing their famous platform shoes), but now she’s covered one of the era’s key hits. “I Want It That Way” was mammoth for the Backstreet Boys, and perhaps their trademark single. Charli’s take strips the song back and adds the 80s synths found sprinkled across her debut album True Romance.
Watch as Charli XCX performs her cover of “I Want It That Way” for the first time ever, recorded at borderline Music in Chicago during an in-store performance and meet & greet.
