P!nk seems to be both the most under rated and yet most consistant POP star on the planet today. No drove of maniac fans under her belt but her latest era has proven quite successful already. The Truth About Love has given birth to the saucy single “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” and the powerful song and video for “Try”. Other era highlights include the Nate Reuss and Eminem collaborations, which are undoubtedly going to be chart toppers if released as singles. Though my favorite track is a deluxe edition only song, and it’s available exclusively through Target so many people don’t even know “Is This Thing On?” even exists. A true crime in POP if you ask me.
“Is This Thing On?” is perfect in every way possible, from the gorgeous intro to the beat stomping that chimes in when P!nk begins to tell the ever relatable story of complicated love, it’s all just perfect. The driving drum kit used here is totally unexpected yet completely fitting, so many elements come together on “Is This Thing On?” that make for a huge tune but in the end, I’ll never get over the pre-chorus.
The melody that strikes in the pre-chorus when she sings “but in good time, we’ll be just fine, either way we need to be happy…” is POP genius followed by the quick build up into the chorus that’s just as explosive. Whoever was responsible for this bit needs an award immediately. There’s no doubt in my mind that this should have been on the standard version, it is begging for single release.
“Is This Thing On” was written by P!nk, Butch Walker, and Jake Sinclair and was produced by Walker. What do you think of the tune? Be sure to pick up The Truth About Love today, it’s worth it. A shame they make it so difficult to BUY all the tracks.
