Dev displays a true showcase of her POP sensibilities on her debut masterpiece The Night The Sun Came Up (produced by The Cataracs), I’m currently obsessed with the UK version of the album. When it first hit last year I enjoyed it but never truly embraced it, well I’m finally embracing it and it’s POP perfection people.
Aside from all the electro ear candy (“In The Dark”, “Lightspeed”) and twinkling POP anthems (“Dancing Shoes”, “Me”) there is one track that serves up haunting balladry fused with starry POP elements titled “Shadows” and it’s an absolute stunner.
“Shadows” begins with simple guitar strumming before diving head first into one of the most beautiful melodies and choruses I’ve ever experienced, “Everywhere I Look, everywhere I look I see shadows haunting over me, and I wonder when they’ll let me be”. It’s simplicity is pure brilliance, straight forward and so effective while maintaining the catchy POP melodies that Dev is capable of.
Listen to “Shadows” below and pick up The Night The Sun Came Up now!
“Ooh help me out Holy Ghost, I have lost the only thing I know and all, all I have left are shadows”
