Perfect POP: Cyndi Lauper – All Through The Night

Perfect POP: Cyndi Lauper – All Through The Night

Being so caught up in the here and now, I often forget to slow down and take it back sometimes. I need to remember to share more POP gems like this Cyndi Lauper single from 1984.

“All Through The Night” is a song written and recorded by Jules Shear which was later recorded by The Cars (but never released) and then recorded by Cyndi Lauper for her debut album, She’s So Unusual.

Lauper gives the song a whimsical twist that I can’t deny, the melodies and her vocal delivery are absolutely on point here, this is such great POP music. The original version by Shears is still good but a leap away from Lauper’s recording so be sure to listen to them below for contrast.

The single managed to crack the Billboard Hot 100 Top 5 in 1984 and marked the first time in the 26 year history of Billboard that a woman hit Top 5 with 4 singles from the same album, quite an impressive feat, don’t you think?

Stream three different renditions of “All Through The Night” below. The flawless synth-POP balladry by Lauper, the original by Jules and for good measure, a take on the tune by Tyler Ramsey of Band of Horses. Enjoy.
