Michael, Madonna, Britney, Beyoncé, Justin, the icons have been hard at work releasing new music in recent years (even from the grave) but ONE icon has been noticeably absent from the charts… until now..maybe.
Janet Fucking Jackson is preparing to unleash her eighth studio album, her first since 2008’s Discipline and vocal producer and engineer Ian Cross (who also worked on Janet’s past 3 albums) spilled the beans in a recent interview with speaker company Barefoot Sound. Check out highlights from the interview below.
On his friendship with Janet: “You meet a lot of people and you become friends with a couple of them, but sometimes there is one person you become really good friends with…She asked me to work on an album with her called Discipline in 2007 and, again, just do the same thing, produce the vocals. That led to her hiring me full-time to work with her. That’s where I’m at now.”
On Janet’s mobility: “The Janet Jackson’s of the world can’t just spend their time in one studio in one city anymore…we’ve been working in Qatar. We’ve been working in Paris, the Middle East, and now we feel like we can work anywhere.”
On what to expect from the new project: “The new album is going to be great. It’s a process. There’s a lot in store, yet to come. I can’t go into too many details but I think Janet Jackson’s fans are going to be very excited about the new album, and I think people who don’t know her as fans are going to be excited about it, too.”
Welp, here’s to another exciting project in the pipeline for the last half of 2014/early 2015! Madonna and Janet, shit, it’s like the 80’s all over again, or the 90’s, or the 00’s! Don’t you just love a good icon?
