Yeah, so when the brief snippet of “Rebel Heart” leaked on Thanksgiving Day, I was sadly underwhelmed as Madonna singing about being Madonna has failed to capture my attention since… I can remember. I’m all about a universal POP song from M, that’s where she excels, making songs everyone can throw on and enjoy.
Enter the full demo of “Rebel Heart” and it seems Avicii has created something that meets the Queen halfway, it’s still her lyrically but not completely, and the production and melodies, well, they take everything to the next level. “Rebel Heart” soars higher than any muscial contribution M has given us in a very long time, like very very long time.
Dare I say that the production post-hook (happens for the first time at 1:25 mark) echoes an 80’s Madonna sound? It’s fucking brilliant… and this is just the demo. If this is a taste of what we can expect from the upcoming era, sign me up immediately.
