Leighton Meester is one of the more promising actress/singers out there. Remember “Body Talk”, “Somebody to Love” and “Your Love’s a Drug?” Those are legitimately great pop songs! Unfortunately Leighton suffers from name recognition and doesn’t get the credit she deserves.
That said, she’s back with a new single and a seemingly new direction. The title track from Leighton’s new EP “Heartstrings” is an indie-pop leaning acoustic slow jam that builds with each listen. Leighton’s voice is allowed to show some versatility and personality here, which may have been lacking in previous efforts. This is more in line with her contributions to the Country Strong soundtrack and I’m not about it!
Try to erase the image of Blair Waldorf from your head (it’s hard, but try) and get into this new music!
