New Ellie Goulding is coming and this is everything the press release says:
“This album for me is a journey from dark into light from confusion to understanding. I didn’t set out to write a break-up record but I think it became one.” Ellie Goulding
Ellie Goulding has today announced details of her eagerly awaited new album ‘Halcyon’ which will be released on October 8th on Polydor Records. It will be preceded by lead single ‘Anything Could Happen’ on September 30th.
‘Halcyon’ is the follow-up to Ellie Goulding’s hugely successful debut album ‘Lights’ which was released in 2010 and has gone on to sell one and a half million copies and generate five million single sales worldwide. The Hereford-born singer songwriter first came to prominence when she topped the BBC Sound of 2010 Poll and was simultaneously awarded the Brits Critics Choice Award. She is the only artist other than Adele to have received both accolades. On release ‘Lights’ went straight to number one in the Official UK Album Charts, cementing Ellie Goulding’s status as the breakthrough artist of 2010. ‘Lights’ went on to become the biggest and fastest selling debut album of 2010, spawning playlist staples ‘Starry Eyed’, ‘Guns And Horses’ , ‘The Writer’, ‘Your Song’ and ‘Lights’ (the latter two featured on repackaged album ‘Bright Lights’) and has topped triple platinum status in the UK with sales of over 850,000 to date. A devoted live following has meant every UK tour date Ellie Goulding announced has sold out. Early 2011 saw Ellie Goulding receive nominations for two Brit Awards – British Female Solo Act and British Breakthrough Act – confirming her prominence at the forefront of the British music scene.
Ellie Goulding’s success in the UK has been mirrored internationally and the US in particular has taken Ellie to its heart. Her single ‘Lights’ has sold over 2.5 million copies there and is currently Top 5 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Top 40 charts. Relentless touring has seen her play to over 30,000 fans Stateside as well as festival appearances and a sold-out Katy Perry Tour. Ellie Goulding was invited to sing at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the White House in December, joining Barack Obama onstage for a round of carols. She has also performed on a number of high profile American TV shows including The Late Show with David Letterman and Saturday Night Live.
All the tracks on ‘Halcyon’ were written and co-produced by Ellie Goulding and the majority were recorded in a converted barn in Ellie Goulding’s hometown in the Hay Valley with producer Jim Elliot (Kylie/Ladyhawke).
Fans got a taste of the new album earlier this month when Ellie Goulding posted a free download of new track ‘Hanging On’ featuring Tinie Tempah. The volume of fans rushing to hear the track caused Soundcloud to crash. ‘Hanging On’ was the number one most blogged and played track on Hypemachine that week and has had over one million total plays/views on Youtube and Soundcloud already.
