Sometimes, an artist uses album artwork that begs for the music to be heard. The cover for Lorde’s debut EP The Love Club features the artist adorned with a snake, a laurel wreath crown, and holding a rat the way girls in Los Angeles hold chihuahuas.
Thankfully, the music is just as fascinating as the art. The 16 (!!?) year-old New Zealander has a theatrical voice that delivers her biting lyrics with simultaneous apathy and wisdom. Lorde released her newest single Tennis Court on iTunes today, with The Love Club EP also available. The highlight from the latter is easily “Royals,” a takedown of pop song motifs that doubles as an earworm.
Do yourself a gigantic favor and watch the videos for “Tennis Court” and “Royals” below, enjoy.
