Donna Summer: 1948 – 2012

I seriously had chills as I read that Donna Summer has passed away at the age of 63 this morning. It’s hard to believe we’re losing these icons left and right these days, it almost seems unfair but that is the circle of life and these icons at the end of the day are just flesh and bone like you and I.

Like many of you, I knew her classic hits (“The Last Dance”, “I Feel Love”, “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)”, etc…), but it was recently that I took an unlikely gravitation to the disco Queen and one of her tracks from her 2008 album Crayons. “Sand On My Feet” is gloriously triumphant in every way and MUST be heard, it’s a warming love song that simply feels good. The hits are classic and since you’re likely going to hear them everywhere, I think it’s important you familiarize yourself with this gem before it’s forgotten.

Listen to “Sand On My Feet” below and remember Donna Summer for all her greatness, in her most major and minor moments, the Queen of Disco lives forever through her music.

Note: “I Feel Love” is one of the most sampled songs in history. Summer is credited for playing a huge part in helping to pioneer dance music in it’s early days.
