First Listen: The Millennial Club – ‘She’s So Insane’ EP

POP regular So-Cal based indie pop/R&B band The Millennial Club (finally) released their long-awaited debut EP, She’s So Insane. Not only did they manage to deliver summer early by a month, but they have delivered it with the perfect soundtrack as well.

The Millennial Club’s work truly stands apart from your typical indie pop band; it becomes clear as soon as the EP starts with the title track, “She’s So Insane”. The track is a strong intro leading into the other similarly heartfelt, romantic bops. It is not just one component that drives their sound home; it’s a combination of everything. The guitar has a smooth and inviting feeling that pairs well with the tempo from the drums (Tyler Kamei) and grooviness of the bass (Jared Ortiz). Every song has a unique sound to the track all the while maintaining the ability to keep the mood light (Andres Owens’ voice really shines in every song). The “it” factor comes down to their ability to mix pop, R&B, and jazz together flawlessly – especially with their hauntingly beautiful Duke Silver-esque saxophone (courtesy of Jake Stevenson).

The EP is successful at pulling inspiration from real life experiences such as love and loss in relationships, all the while staying a collection of hopeless romantic love songs. It seems like the band wanted to keep it transparent when thinking of relationships. The Millennial Club executes their sound and maintains an upbeat ambiance which can be played while driving down the coast on your best day, at night when you want to self-reflect on life, or even just lay down and enjoy life on the grass. It’s the type of album that is truly perfect for every occasion, where you can consider any track to be the soundtrack for your life.
