New Music Discovery: January / 26 / 2018

As I sifted through the hundreds of email submissions from the past week I found several that stood out that I have to share with you guys.

These new artist discoveries provide a variety of flavors and moods, from shallou and Riah’s atmospheric and infectious single “Lie” to Eric Sharp and Zhao’s organic house vibes with “Call In The Night.” There’s something here for everyone.

shallou feat. Riah – Lie
For fans of: Chvrches, indie-electronic labels, Spotify-recommended songs

Emerging producer/artist shallou teams up with a vocalist named Riah for a song called “Lie” that is a dreamy bop and a half. Light and full of POP, the pair manage to engage the listener the whole way through, leaving me in a cloud of cotton candy bliss.

Love Sick – Hope
For fans of: Phantogram, Broods, people who need to bum a smoke

Love Sick consists of Scottish boy-girl duo Shaun and Julie who met while working at the same life insurance call center. Who would have ever fucking guessed that two people working at a life insurance call center could join forces to create music on this level?! Surely not I. But here we are with Love Sick creating vibes for days. My favorite part is the hook that hits at the :55 mark, it’s melodic perfection followed by a solid, industrial drop.

Ukiyo – Something Like This
For fans of: Broken Bells, bands/artists that sound like Broken Bells

This 21-year-old Aussie is packing some serious flavor with his single “Something Like This.” The vibes are off the Richter scale as Ukiyo blends handy synth-work with a natural production that never leans too far in one direction.

Eric Sharp feat. Zhao – Call In The Night
For fans of: Rüfüs Du Sol, getting drunk at 3am and vibing, people who like to support vegan artists

Los Angeles producer Eric Sharp delivers a mood with “Call In The Night” featuring Zhao. Sharp’s approach to house rings true to its roots, never once feeling like it’s trying to be something it’s not. What may appear simple or minimal really sounds expertly crafted to those looking for that organic touch in their vibe. I already know this one is playing at the next 2am music listening session at my house.
